It&rsquo;s been a life-changing experience for&nbsp;<a href="https://coryvanlew.com/">Cory Van Lew</a> to be the only one of the seven artists in CODAMADE&rsquo;s first drop to go through the creative process of entering this new realm of public work.&nbsp;

Van Lew is a painter and NFT artist who has recently been expanding into 3D and sculptural installation. His work serves as a tool to invoke positive energy in the viewer through his signature bright pastel color palette.&nbsp;

Exploring everything from figurative, scenic, and abstract art, Van Lew portrays his life experiences on canvas through people and environments of inspiration. Pulling from moments of his life, he uses his &ldquo;Theory of Transmission&rdquo; to translate his inner truth and captivate viewers with unique characters immersed in a vibrant colorful universe.&nbsp;

Coming from the painting and digital world, the process of creating art in the digital sphere considers new elements such as spatial awareness, materiality, and physical 3D construction for the first time with the immersive art installation. Van Lew&rsquo;s NFT project offers unique insight into these first moments of his creative process &ndash; diving into a new world of physically transporting viewers into his sacred universe.&nbsp;

Van Lew&rsquo;s collection features an image depicting his spiritual experience with Kambo, a medicinal ritual practiced among the indigenous peoples of the Amazon.&nbsp;Medicine Man&nbsp;is the first in a series that features blueprints for an immersive and experiential physical art installation that guides visitors through a spiritual journey using color, light, and sound.&nbsp;

The image of&nbsp;Medicine Man&nbsp;shows Cory in a trance, lying on a large rock by a river, wrapped in a blanket while experiencing a state of bliss. His brother appears in the background, visibly in contrast during a harsh purging of negative energy.&nbsp;

This touches on metaphoric elements of duality and polarity, positive and negative, the dark and the light. The goal behind this was to capture the state of bliss he was experiencing in a way that would evoke bliss in the viewers through the use of color and an awareness of one&rsquo;s own spiritual journey.

Since his entry into the NFT community, Van Lew has established a stronghold as one of the prominent artists in the space, working with big names such as Pixar, Mike Tyson, Jake Paul, TIME, and Teyana Taylor. His balance between both the NFT digital realm and the fine arts world is what makes his background so unique.&nbsp;

Van Lew is constantly exploring new avenues to expand his craft and body of work. This includes a recent painting performance at the ICA Miami, which marks his first museum display. This NFT collection from I Was Here surged by bridging a project rooted in ancestry together with the eternal documentation capabilities of blockchain technology.&nbsp;

Energy and mediums like collage, photography, architecture, and NFTs merge and transcend time and space like channels between realities. This collaboration is engineered to maintain an occult essence transcribed into the immortalization of important facts as digital assets in this new era.

This project began in 2016 with a vision of an African mother and child moving like points of light across the windows surrounding the largest auction site of the enslaved west of the Allegheny Mountains. I Was Here was created by photographing contemporary African Americans as archetypal Ancestor Spirits.&nbsp;

The portraits embody family: mother, father, brother, and sister. They form cohesive, ethereal images that convey the dignity of the African American individual and family &ndash; imagery mostly missing in America&rsquo;s visual history. It has developed into a portrait of powerful, dignified, holy, and beautiful people: a synthesis of history, image, narrative, and soundscape.

I Was Here begins with an honest look at the history of place. Ancestor Spirit Portraits have been integrated into key historic sites across America. The project creates a visual for an invisible history, asking us to examine who we are to each other, who we are as a nation, and how we can work to repair the wound in our citizenship created by enslavement. Through AR, image, narrative, and soundscape, the project creates a monument to a people.

What I Was Here accomplishes with its public art and public history installations is a mindful, reverent, and powerful acknowledgment of American history. The project invites as much as it prods visitors to allow this acknowledgment to hold public space and to accept the echoes layered into the project&rsquo;s name, I Was Here.

<a href="https://i-was-here.org/">I Was Here</a> is a collaboration between artist Marjorie Guyon and contributors Patrick J. Mitchell, Barry Darnell Burton, Daniel Ware, Michael Baer, Michael Preacely, and Syndy Deese. Layers of history and time are a constant in Guyon's work. One of the hallmarks is that her images at once emerge from, yet disappear into what appears to be an ancient surface.&nbsp;

To build her compositions, Guyon works in collage and applies marble dust and pigment &ndash; earth from all over the world to create an archeology of the soul. Collage is a metaphor for America's Motto: Out of many comes one. E Pluribus Unum.

Patrick J. Mitchell is an international award-winning photojournalist from New York City, known for documenting present-day life and using human emotion to tell life's stories with his images. His works have been published in several books (Anthology of Appalachian Writers) and articles (Oprah Winfrey's O magazine and The Breona Taylor Billboard installation), in addition to being exhibited in several states across the country including The Lyric Theater, Arthouse, and Purdue Cultural Center.

Barry Darnell Burton, one of the models for the Ancestor Spirit Portraits is a resident of Lexington, KY. His family has traced their roots in Lexington back to 1840, before which there is no information. Along with his physical image, he is also the installation technician for tapestry portraits and the author of &ldquo;Where Do I Begin,&rdquo; the signature blessing that accompanies the installation, "Make a Wish on Mr. America," and "E Pluribus Unum" along with many additional narratives that frame the project.

In 2021, <a href="https://edisonpenafiel.com/">Edison Pe&ntilde;afiel </a>embarked on an ambitious multichannel film installation, MARE MAGNVM, inspired by the contemporary and historical migration movements across the Mediterranean Sea and other bodies of water. The multichannel video installation was completed and presented last year at Sabrina Amrani Gallery in Madrid-Spain and at Mad Arts in Dania Beach.&nbsp;
For the realization of this project, Pe&ntilde;afiel has been collaborating with <a href="https://www.yeswearemad.com/">Mad</a>, a full visual agency with ample experience in developing physical and digital art projects. Mad has supported this project by providing all necessary space and services, including animation, coding, synchronization, and the creation of a perpetual loop on installations of this magnitude, in addition to helping with the creation of this NFT collection.
The MARE MAGNVM: VLTRAMARINI collection derives from the MARE MAGNVM 12 Channel Video Installation that was created and presented in 2021. This multichannel film installation consists of a stylized, monochromatic animation of the sea populated by 14 boats. There are 81 individual characters navigating the scene though they are caught in the perpetual loop of their video universe. Every 30 minutes, the characters arrive back where they began, only to continue, endlessly heading clockwise against the waves.&nbsp;
Playing over this phantasmagoria is an ambient cello composition, bringing the full weight of the scene to bear. Larger than life-size, the characters dwarf the viewers who stand and bear witness to the struggle at sea. They each stand &mdash; some men, some women, some elderly, some pregnant &ndash; frozen in their stances. Their vessels are made of various found objects, like wood, oil drums, and tires.
MARE MAGNVM, which translates to Great Sea in Latin, is the name Romans gave to the Mediterranean Sea. Although the artist constructs fictional characters, these images point to real-life scenes from the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, along with so many other sites of migration across bodies of water. MARE MAGNVM does not refer only to a single or specific event.&nbsp;
No information is given on the characters&rsquo; origin or their personal history. Their faces are not visible, covered by papier-m&acirc;ch&eacute; masks typical of Pe&ntilde;afiel&rsquo;s native Ecuador, which both humanize and de-personify these characters. The identity of these people remains temporally and culturally ambiguous; their unspecific costuming transforms them into archetypal representatives of any Diaspora population.
The MARE MAGNVM: VLTRAMARINI NFT collection expands the narrative as a prequel and a sequel to the original MARE MAGNVM series that centers on real-life scenes from the many sites of migration across bodies of water around the globe. The NFT collection exhibits that precise moment when the VLTRAMARINI, those beyond the sea, finally arrive at an unidentified coastline.
Edison Pe&ntilde;afiel creates experiences that revolve around those on the underside of the world&rsquo;s major conflicts: the migrant, the laborer, and the surveilled. He draws the eye to odd angles at which our world often intersects &mdash; using sculpture, animation, video, and space to create disturbing reflections of the realities we participate in and witness daily.&nbsp;
These unnerving views break us out of the desensitized lull that ongoing crises create. Interweaving projection with physical objects mirrors how concepts interact with the real world. Video projection introduces movement and rhythm to stationary, three-dimensional elements. At the same time, these objects provide weight and fixed form. This presentation merges the tactile with the ephemeral, each informing and complicating the other.&nbsp;
His work responds to the urgency of exploring the history of how we got here, how we perceive current events, and the hard truths of those who face the darkest parts of the present. Through visual references to German expressionism and the surveillance state, Pe&ntilde;afiel joins a long-term discussion about the turning gears of modernity and the alienation it continues to produce.&nbsp;
This visual approach brims with anxiety illustrated in crooked lines, informed by the dismal cruelties of bureaucracy, the policing of human movement, and empty rituals of labor. The urgency and importance of these themes are always matched by their emotional impact. For Pe&ntilde;afiel, the outcome of his work must bring about a visceral change in the viewer, equal parts intriguing and unsettling. Through surreal imagery, these confrontations with injustice aim to produce much-needed empathy for the oppressed.
Pe&ntilde;afiel has presented his work at numerous prestigious venues including the Bass Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, the Orlando Museum of Art, the Atlantic Center for the Arts, the University of South Florida Contemporary Art Museum, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, Sabrina Amrani Gallery, Atchugarry Art Center, the Contemporary Art Center New Orleans, the McColl Center for Art + Innovation, and the Centro de Arte Universidad Nacional de la Plata.&nbsp;
Among his distinctions, he has been the recipient of awards from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Florida Prize in Contemporary Art, the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship in 2019, The Ellies Creator Award, and an Individual Artist Project Award from the State of Florida Division of Arts and Culture in 2021. He is currently a resident at Oolite Arts in Miami.

 This NFT launch is a collaboration with <a href="https://larawlsn.com/The-Assembly-Dance">The Assembly Dance</a>, who tapped Demetia Hopkins (Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Broadway) to perform a new solo about origination, survival, and growth. <a href="http://www.imaniworks.org/">ImaniWorks</a>, the host of the Affrolachian On-Time Music Gathering, developed the original score.


 Starting with graceful movement, Ms. Hopkins leads without words and ignites the spontaneous patterns of the community performance. All action is recorded by drones to underscore the significance of looking at oneself from a bird's-eye perspective and to highlight how we intersect and influence others, both intimately and as a larger group.


 The NFT collection, Ridgeline.00, enables growing relationships in astounding directions. The subject is a symbolic abstraction of motion developed for a public event, Ridgeline. The segment of the &ldquo;launch dance&rdquo; &ndash; performed by Demetia Hopkins to an original score by ImaniWorks.org &ndash; is meant to lead and inspire movement with light, but more importantly to speak to the larger issues of the human role in nature.

They investigate our relationship with what we hear and how we can open our ears to journey inside and through a sonic landscape. 


These audiovisual compositions encourage us to sit, listen, and create our own discoveries and stories of a specific moment in time. The tones, rhythms, and melodies seen and heard in these collections represent the leap into the unknown, the teetering on the edge that is this brand new process highlighting the artist’s foray into the world of NFTs.


Through multimedia performances and installations grounded in percussive sounds, Maria Finkelmeier aims to instigate inquisition, inspire reflection, and build community through conversation.  imagines a future based on the synergistic evolution of physical and virtual
 environments, creating projects that make visible a new typology of public
 space.&nbsp;


 Trained as both an artist and an architect, she founded her Los Angeles
 studio as a means to bridge traditional professional disciplines. The
 studio&rsquo;s work is research-driven, exploring the boundaries of
 technology, aesthetics, and expression. At its creative core is a belief in
 the promise of a built environment in which the individual becomes the
 catalyst in an evolving language of engagement.&nbsp;


 Narduli&rsquo;s award-winning commissions position narrative, generative
 media, and interactive experience within the formal and social context of
 public space. A licensed architect with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master
 of Architecture, Narduli serves as Principal and Creative Director of
 Narduli STUDIO, where she guides the conceptual evolution of the work. Prior
 to starting her own firm, Narduli was Project Designer for Frank
 Gehry.


 Most of Susan Narduli&rsquo;s work is connected to the virtual world, so
 coming into the NFT space was a natural evolution that the studio had wanted
 to pursue for a while. Narduli envisioned digital assets as an evolving
 real-time urban experience created in a medium as ephemeral as light and
 data.&nbsp;


 This NFT series is based on the public art commission Light Crossings, a
 series of interactive and generative light installations positioned on the
 bridges spanning the New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Driven by data
 from tide levels, times of day, and seasons, the rhythms of the sites are
 transformed into a slowly shifting urban experience made visible through the
 ephemeral language of light. These commissions are currently in the design
 phase and will be completed in 2023 and 2024.


 The initial process began with the Mad team scanning the bridges and
 adjacent public spaces. Then, Narduli worked with the scans to develop the
 conceptual framework and visual language which she brought to the first
 collaboration with Mad. Though they are still in the early phases,
 they&rsquo;ve found a way &ndash; through experimentation and an iterative
 process&nbsp;&ndash; to distill the pure concepts of the artworks and
 reimagine them as a series of NFTs.


 Rather than a literal representation, the NFT series is a
 reconceptualization of Light Crossings as an immersive set of explorations
 not possible in the physical world. The digital scans provided the
 architectural framework for the development of the NFTs and a 3D environment
 to frame an infinite number of experiences. The initial series will take the
 audience from physical representation into a point cloud structural
 environment to explore and interact with the artworks and real-time
 effects.


 The freedom and infinite possibilities afforded by cutting-edge tools and
 technology have allowed Narduli to develop new forms of expression and
 extend her understanding of simultaneous physical and virtual
 experiences.

<h4>Susan Narduli: Behind the Art</h4>

Crafted to highlight the famous words of Theodore Parker and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Toward Justice is a public art piece from Joseph O&rsquo;Connell and <a href="https://www.creativemachines.com/">Creative Machines</a> that was commissioned by the City of Atlanta. This unique work now has an opportunity to transform in exciting ways through its extension into the world of NFTs.&nbsp;

Digitally, it will provide the means for individuals or corporations to fund the creation of unique animations with the theme of social justice and reconciliation. When O&rsquo;Connell conceptualized the artwork in 2018, there was no such mechanism, but in collaboration with Mad, the artwork can live and evolve beyond its installation.

The story of this artwork begins in the 19th century when Theodore Parker coined a phrase that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. used a century later in four influential speeches: &ldquo;The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.&rdquo; Forty years later, Obama paraphrased Dr. King and Parker in several speeches and on the night of his first election suggested that people have a duty &ldquo;...to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.&rdquo;&nbsp;

Ten years after Obama&rsquo;s speech, his belief that our role in justice must be active is what inspired the artist to design an interactive gateway that gives physical form to the concept of an arc bending towards closure if people push.

 Toward Justice: Putting Our Hands on History&nbsp;
</h4>

The six arches of this gateway suggest a time-lapse sequence moving toward perfect closure (justice). Each side features three arcs that get closer until they meet over the center of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

At the base of the central arc on each side are handprints with interactive force sensors suggesting that people stand and push. These force sensors drive the animated lighting in the arches, and if people on both sides push very hard, the gap between both sides of the street narrows, and the tips get close to touching.&nbsp;

The gateway is about Dr. King and Obama, but as the handprints suggest, it is about every one of us putting our hands on history. The first generation of NFTs would allow individuals or community stakeholders to purchase unique animations of the main public artwork.&nbsp;

The video NFT includes the chronological history as connected to the social justice inspiration from the artist, the creative process, and the digital code being activated at the art piece on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.&nbsp;

Subsequent NFTs might be linked to events at the nearby Mercedes-Benz Stadium or to events related to the historically Black churches and institutions of higher learning that line Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Based in Tucson, Arizona, Joseph O'Connell founded his studio, Creative Machines, in 1995 to support his creative practice. A diverse team with backgrounds in art, engineering, architecture, and custom fabrication assists him in realizing his award-winning artwork. O'Connell's site-specific sculptures have been commissioned all over the world.

O'Connell approaches art as a venue for exploring and expanding what it means to be human. Some of his pieces stand as individual actors: mechanical beings sharing our world with their own unique model of existence. Other works form small spaces that surround uneasy but protected environments that grant us permission to lower our defenses and witness our own true ways of being.&nbsp;

Projected light and human-powered motion blur the boundaries between viewer, artwork, and environment, further allowing a temporary suspension of reality and moments of internal reflection.  physical sphere.


 Juried by Ronnie Pirovino and curated by Mad Arts, this exhibition highlights

 largest project to date is "The Space Between Dreams and Reality," an

 building's "memory." The installation was displayed on the library's exterior
 walls and featured constantly changing patterns and imagery.


 Anadol also created a limited edition NFT of the installation, which was sold

Narduli&rsquo;s work makes perfect sense for the NFT world, as her acclaimed, California-based studio often conducts research and is influenced by data-driven tools. &nbsp;

Uncomfortable truths are what Edison Pe&ntilde;afiel specializes in portraying. There are 14 boats and 81 characters that appear in his&nbsp;MARE MAGNVM: VLTRAMARINI, a representation of the Mediterranean Sea&rsquo;s role in human migratory patterns over the ages, as well as the dangerous and disheartening conditions that these migrants encountered. The faces of the massive characters are obscured with masks, while the boats are constructed from a hodgepodge of materials. The NFT collection was closely designed with assistance from the CODAMADE team and is based on a video installation exhibited by Pe&ntilde;afiel in 2021, adding to the forlorn reality of these travelers.&nbsp;

Thanks to the power of blockchain technology, the project&nbsp;I Was Here&nbsp;has another dimension to communicate its powerful message. This NFT collection is based on a collaboration between artist Marjorie Guyon and the talents of Patrick J. Mitchell, Barry Darnell Burton, Daniel Ware, Michael Baer, Michael Preacely, and Syndy Deese in 2016. The project was organized around Ancestral Spirit Portraits representing African American slaves displayed at historic locations in Lexington, Kentucky. Now, using augmented reality, storytelling, imagery, and sound design, this NFT collection can reach more people in new ways. Evoking big questions and emotions about injustices in society, ancestry, and our shared history,&nbsp;I Was Here&nbsp;establishes a historical record and pays respect to those who came and suffered before us.&nbsp;

Toward Justice&nbsp;is the name of a fresh NFT collaboration between Joseph O&rsquo;Connell and Creative Machines Inc. Traveling from Arizona to Florida to work with the CODAMADE team on this concept, O&rsquo;Connell had a very specific vision of how NFTs could influence sculpture. Moved by a quote from Theodore Parker that inspired both Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Barack Obama, O&rsquo;Connell wanted an NFT collection with a video component about a project commissioned by the City of Atlanta. Lighting elements on the physical sculpture will be able to change through the purchase of these NFTs and through people&apos;s on-site interaction with the sculpture itself. Sensors installed on it can change the lights, symbolizing the choice and ability everyone has to move &ldquo;the arc of the moral universe&rdquo; in the direction of justice. &nbsp;

MacArthur Fellow, Elizabeth Turk enters the world of NFTs with&nbsp;Ridgeline.00.&nbsp;Emphasizing the joy found in a collective and how we can all be part of the art world, her NFT is a collaboration with dancer Demetia Hopkins and The Assembly Dance. Original musical compositions from ImaniWorks, the host of the Affrolachian On-Time Music Gathering, are also a key part of this collection. ET Projects is a nonprofit, and Turk is interested in the possibilities of the NFT world and metaverse in creating performances that are free to the public. With help from Oak Spring Garden Foundation, Piedmont Environmental Council, and CODAMADE, her artwork is taking on a new form.&nbsp;
